Richard F (Dick) Nitz, 91, of Fergus Falls died peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
Dick was born on May 2, 1933 to Fred W. and Rose (Burman) Nitz in Barnesville, MN. He grew up on a farm west of Rothsay, MN and attended a one room school at District 61 in Wilkin County prior to attending high school at Rothsay, graduating in 1951.
Following graduation, Dick enlisted in the service and served in the US Army in Korea. He then attended Wahpeton State School of Science where he received a junior college degree and thereafter obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota. He then enrolled at the Wm Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul and graduated Cum Laude in 1964.
On December 9, 1961 he married the love of his life Rona K. (nee Lillibridge) and together they moved to Fergus Falls where Dick joined the law firm of W. Earl Williams, Henry Polkinghorn and Harlan L. Nelson, then later joined by Charles Krekelberg, where he practiced law until his retirement. Following retirement Dick and Rona spent some 25 winters in Sun City, Arizona where they enjoyed playing golf. He also spent many hours hunting on his land that was precious to him.
Dick was a life member of the Fergus Falls Elks Club as well as the VFW Post 612 of Fergus Falls.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Rose Nitz and his siblings: Barbara (Xavier) Walz, Darrell (Patricia) Nitz, and William Nitz.
Dick is survived by his brother James (Idella) Nitz of Rothsay, sister-in-law Barbara Nitz of Fergus Falls, and sister-in-law Sissie Schlotfeldt of Pierz, MN, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Per Dick's wishes, there will be no funeral service.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday July 20, 2024 at the Fergus Falls YMCA from 4-6pm.
