Richard Runningen, 89, of Evansville, died Thursday, January 9, 2020 at his home.
Richard Charles Runningen was born on November 30, 1930 in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Roy and Sarah (Lystrom) Runningen. He attended country school in Otter Tail County through the eighth grade and worked in the family fur business. Richard went on to serve in the United States Army, where he received his high school diploma, and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
On October 30, 1954, Richard married Georgia Turner at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and they were blessed with two children.
Following his retirement from the military in 1973, Richard went into the fur business with his father, retiring in 1986. Richard and Georgia wintered in Arizona for many years, eventually buying a home there. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed working at the golf course, clipped coupons, collected coins, and most of all, cherished time spent with his family.
Richard was a member of the Ashby American Legion, Peace and Grue Lutheran Churches.
He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Runningen of Fergus Falls and Sherri (Duane) Hokanson of Evansville; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Tyler) Ryckman, Kay (Todd) Loeffler, and Marie Hokanson; five great-grandchildren, Jayda, Baylee, Georgia, Isaac, and Ethan; a sister, Judy Evavold of Garfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; his twin brother, Ruben; sisters-in-law, Muriel and Delores Runningen; and a brother-in-law, Ricky Evavold.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Monday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Ashby, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby
