Robert Hanken Jr

Robert John Hanken Jr., age 71, of Fergus Falls, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 from complications of heart disease.
He was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on April 30, 1942; the son of June (Wangsness) and Robert Hanken Sr. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD and then to Edina, MN where Bob graduated from high school. He attended Grinnell College in Iowa and later moved to Watertown, SD, where he and his father owned and operated the Best Western Guest House Hotel. During this time, he was also a medic in the Air National Guard.
In 1965, he married Joan Mitchell and they had three sons. In the early '80s, their family moved to California, where he continued in the hotel business until the '90s, when they moved to Bloomington, MN, where he joined Westgor and Associates in the hotel real estate business. Subsequently, he moved to Jamestown, ND to manage the Best Western Dakota Inn.
In 2001, Bob and Carol O'Meara were married, and they lived in Jamestown, ND, until their move to Fergus Falls, MN two years ago. Bob enjoyed cars, restoring and creating light fixtures, and reading.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carol of Fergus Falls; five children, John (Nancy) of Pleasant Hill, CA, David of Richfield, MN, Matthew of Richfield, MN, Katie O'Meara of Fergus Falls, MN, Gannon O'Meara (Kristine) of Farmington, MN; grandchildren, Cody, Isabella, and Aiden Hanken; Emma Hust-O'Meara, Adam Hust, Graysen O'Meara; Emma, Kailey, and Alex Smith; and a sister, Cynthia Hanken of Petaluma, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Ryan Hust, his future son in law.
Visitation: 5 - 7 PM Monday, with a Time of Sharing at 7 pm, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 15th, 2014, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
Clergy: Reverend Ed Monson and Reverend Shawn Bowman
Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls
