Pastor Robert "Bob" Hawkinson, 96, of Alexandria, MN, died Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Galeon Nursing Home in Osakis, MN.
Robert Fred Hawkinson was born September 3, 1920, at Asbury Hospital in Minneapolis, the son of Fred and Florence Bernice (Olson) Hawkinson.
He graduated from Chisago City High School in 1938. Bob then attended Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska and also Augustana College and Seminary, graduating in 1947.
On June 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Rhoda M. Johnson at the First Lutheran Church of Aitkin. From 1947- 1952 he served the Salem Lutheran Church of Wolverton and also the Clara Lutheran Church of Comstock. While in Wolverton he was a Boy Scout Leader and President of the Red River Valley Luther League. From 1952-1988, Pastor Bob served three parishes, Zion Lutheran Church of Amor, Eagle Lake Lutheran Church of rural Battle Lake and Grace Lutheran Church of Henning. During his ministry, he was instrumental in organizing the building of Faith Haven Youth Camp on Eagle Lake. The couple currently attended Shalom Lutheran Church of Alexandria.
His hobbies included watching sports, fishing, woodworking and going to farmers markets and garage sales where he purchased many coats for the needy. In his younger days he enjoyed participating in hockey and baseball.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Florence; a granddaughter, Amy salvevold (daughter of Gary and Linne); a sister, Doris Seburg and her husband Stanley; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Hawkinson and a brother-in-law, Dr. Frank Anderson.
His family included his wife, Rhoda of Alexandria; four daughters, Laela (David) Salvevold of Moorhead, Linne (Gary) Salvevold of Fergus Falls, Linda (Lowell) Salvevold of Dalton and Susan Rucker of Eden Prairie; 14 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; a sister, Marcia Anderson of Burnsville and a brother, Stanton Hawkinson of Hackensack along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Memorials preferred to Douglas County Hospice, Faith Haven Bible Camp, and Eagle Lake Cemetery fund.
Visitation: Sunday, March 26, 2017, from 4-6, with a 5:30 prayer service at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2017, at Shalom Lutheran Church.
