Robert Holstrom

Robert Holstrom, age 86, of Fergus Falls passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at Lake Region Healthcare.
Robert James Holstrom was born in Fergus Falls, MN on November 19, 1925, the son of George and Edith (Greenwood) Holstrom. He attended church at Grace United Methodist Church, and attended school in Fergus Falls through his senior year, at which time he enlisted in the US Navy, just after Pearl Harbor. He was active in the Navy during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1952.
On July 24, 1948, Robert married Evelyn Mary Silbernagel in the parsonage of the Catholic Church in Fergus Falls.
After his military service, Robert moved back to Fergus Falls and worked at City Bakery, purchasing the business in 1973. After retiring, Robert continued to work with Murray Swanson at Swanson Surplus and Locators, and later worked for Keith and Kathy Jacobson's Locator & Supplies business until he retired at the age of 82.
Robert was extremely proud of his military service and belonged to many service organizations, including the American Legion, VFW, and Elks Club, to name a few. Robert came from a family of skilled woodworkers, a skill he acquired as well. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to music, building wood models, and he read constantly.
Robert was a wonderful husband, father, and father-in-law, and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Fergus Falls; son, Ron (Arla) of Fergus Falls; a brother, George (Gladys) of Fergus Falls; sisters-in-law, Delphine Silbernagel of Fergus Falls and June Silbernagel of Billings, MT; a brother-in-law, Fred (Eileen) Silbernagel of Billings, MT; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Hellickson.
Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.
Visitation: Two hours prior to the service at the funeral home
Interment: St. Otto's Catholic Cemetery
