Robert Lind

Robert Lind, 87, of Battle Lake, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017, at his home, under the care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Robert Fred Lind was born February 25, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota at Northwestern Hospital to parents Fred N. and Estella (Beals) Lind. He was christened April 20th (Easter Sunday) 1930 and confirmed in the Methodist Church. He attended grade school in Glasgow, Montana, Jr. High School in Mason City, Iowa; finishing grade 9 in Cass Lake. While attending high school, Robert or Bob as everyone called him, worked in all phases of the hardware and gas business in his father's hardware store, until he graduated from Cass lake High School in 1948.

Then he enlisted in June in the U.S. Navy as a U.S.N.E.V. (United States Naval Enlisted Volunteer) and was called into service that fall. After separation from service after serving in the Cold War, reserves and the Korea War Bob worked for his father in the family hardware store until spring of 1954. Then he was a switchman at Kelly Lake before attending Wahpeton School of Science to pursue the electrical trade under the G.I. Bill.

Bob married Delores Mae Sannes on June 26, 1955 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, McIntosh, Minnesota. To them was born three children Gary Robert, Roger David and Shari Ann Lind. He was always so very proud of them and their families.

While still attending Wahpeton School of Science he was offered a job for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as installer repairman. He then worked for Erie Mining Company as an electrician and for the U. S. Air Force as electrical lead man. While there he was qualified up to the umbilical cord of the Minuteman Missile. Minnkota Power wanted him to come to work for them as their electrical foreman in 1966. He worked for them for 25 years before retiring February 28, 1992.

Bob was a member of the Shrine; participating in the Drum and Bugle Corp found him marching in many parades. Also, a member of Scottish Rite, Eagles, and Masons, where he was Worshipful Master of Red River Lodge 292, East Grand Forks; Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star three times; active member of American Legion Post #30, VFW Post #612, DAV Chapter #30 all of Fergus Falls and Boy Scout Webelos adult leader.

He liked to collect trains, snowmobiling and wood carving. Bob always had the natural talent to fix almost anything. His sons often consulted him with questions, many about cars due to his knowledge and abilities. He always loved being with his family, grandchildren and later years enjoying the great grandchildren was extra special.

After retirement, he enjoyed traveling more and his wood carving, of which he possessed a natural talent. He carved many kinds of Kachina dolls, Swedish items, cowboys, birds, animals and especially his carving of Jesus on the Cross which he carved from a single piece of wood.

Bob and Delores liked spending winters at their home in Oro Valley, Arizona and just being together as they were married 62 years.

Bob is survived by his wife Delores; son, Gary & wife Barb and daughter Shari Lind; four grandchildren: Jamie and Jessie Stripe, Joshua & Darcy Lind, Keely Cogswell and special friend Jeremy, and grandson Tanner Lind; five great-grandchildren, Emily and Elizabeth Stripe, Harrison and Jude Lind, and Colin Cogswell.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Estella Lind and son Roger David Lind, 5 September 2016.

Memorials are requested to First Lutheran Church Building Fund or Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Memorial Service: 11 AM Monday, September 11, 2017, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, MN, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Clergy: Reverend Bradley Skogen

Interment: 3 PM Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh, Minnesota

Military Honors: Battle Lake Veterans Organization and Minnesota National Guard
