Bob was born on August 18, 1922 in
Minneapolis

to Elof and
Florence
(English) Malmgren, the seventh of nine children.
He grew up in Parkers Prairie, MN. In 1938, Bob joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in
Big Falls
,
MN
, serving until July 1940.
On March 25, 1941 he joined the US Army and served in the South Pacific until his discharge in November 1945.
Bob then spent time in
Los Angeles
,
CA
where he worked and earned his high school diploma.
Bob married Jean Gunderson at
First
Lutheran
Church
parsonage in
Battle
Lake
on September 28, 1946.
To this union two daughters were born, Gail and Lynn.

.
Bob was employed by Western Electric Company from 1946 until his retirement in 1980 as an installer of telephone equipment in offices throughout the Midwest, which kept him “on the road” for much of his career.
Bob enjoyed golfing, coin collecting, snowmobiling, boating and taking care of his immaculate yard.
He was a member of
First
Lutheran
Church
in
Battle
Lake
, a Lions club member, a charter member and first commander of the Battle Lake VFW Post 874.
Bob is survived by two daughters, Gail (Barry) Nelson, Craig, CO, Lynn (Richard) Wilson,
Gainsville
,
GA
; five grandchildren, Joshua (Katie) Bergeron, Nicholas Bergeron, Heather VanGilder, TJ (Julie) VanGilder, and Mckenzie Wilson; two great-grandsons, Gracen and Bennett VanGilder; his brother, Richard of Hayward, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean in 2004; his parents Elof and Florence Malmgren; a brother and six sisters.
