Robert (Bob) Meis, 76, of Fergus Falls died Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Mountain Vista Hospital in Mesa, AZ.
Robert (Bob) Leroy Meis was born February 21, 1940 to Theodore and Lillian (Fisher) Meis at Battle Lake, MN. He grew up in Western Township, Fergus Falls where he attended school. He completed his education at West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN, graduating in 1958. He then began his life long career of farming in Western Township. In 2004 he moved to Aastad Township after semi-retirement. The last 7 years were spent wintering in Apache Junction, AZ.
On April 9, 1960 he married Donna Mecklenburg and to this union three children were born, Jody, Dale and Connie.
On November 21, 1994 he married Barbara Hanson and welcomed 4 step-children, Randy, Deanna, Rick and Danette.
Bob served on the Western Town Board for many years, Wendell Elevator Board and Aastad Church Council. He was a member of The Uninviteds Car Club. He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, visiting friends, his cat Missy, and pulling pranks on people with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He was easy going, friendly and always had a smile on his face, and loved starting a conversation with strangers.
On his 76th birthday, February 21, 2016, he wasn't going to stick around for the party; he had a more important date to keep. Welcoming him into God's Kingdom were his parents, brother Darrell and grandson Richard, along with a host of friends who have gone on before him.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Barbara, son Dale (Sheri) Meis, Fergus Falls; daughters Jody (Michael) Davis, Thornton, CO and Connie (Glen) Oliphant, Fergus Falls; step sons Randy Lohner and Rick (Kristy Peyerl) Hanson, Fergus Falls; step daughters Deanna (John) Swenson, Battle Lake and Danette Hanson, White Bear Lake; grandchildren Christopher, Chandler and Chase Davis, Carson Oliphant, Charissa (Tom) Gillespie, Clancy Oliphant, Carlie Meis, Joe (Kate) Swenson, Shannon (Michele) Grove and Traesyn James, Stacey (Randy) Hammer, Billie Jo (Justin) Smith, Swen Swenson, Heather Hanson, Leah (Michael Atonio) Hanson, Cheyanne O'Neal, Jessica, Allen and Wesley Peyerl; great grandchildren Declan Gillespie, Amber, Paton and Shelby Smith, Zachary Hammer and McKenzi Grove; aunt Catherine Delo of Port Angeles, WA and his beloved pet Missy.
Funeral Services: 1:30 PM, Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Aastad Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls
Visitation: 4-7 PM, Saturday, with a prayer service at 4 PM at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls - and one hour prior to the service at the church
