Robert Quam

Robert J. Quam, age 79, of Council Bluffs , IA , formerly of Fergus Falls , MN died Friday, October 15, 2010 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs , IA.

Robert James Quam was born October 12, 1931 to Julian and Esther (Schulz) Quam of Fergus Falls and grew up on the farm in Carlisle Township . He attended school at District 54 and completed his final 2 years of grade school at Trinity Parochial School . He graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1949. Robert farmed with his brothers Richard and Ronald in Carlisle Township until 1991. From 1991 to 1997 he was the Trinity Lutheran Church and school custodian. On December 26, 1992 Robert was united in marriage to Bette Fischer in Council Bluffs , IA. For several years he worked as a desk clerk at the Super 8 motel of Fergus Falls until he retired. In October of 2008 he and Bette moved to Council Bluffs where he resided until the time of his death.

Robert was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was active on the church council, an usher and in many other capacities. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, farming and working with dairy cattle.

He is survived by his wife, Bette; three brothers, Ronald, Richard, and Stan (Donna) Quam all of Fergus Falls; eight step-children, Twyla, Greg, Wendell, Debbie, Tony, Tina, Cheryle and Sandee; one niece, Karen Quam of Stanton Island, NY; one nephew, Paul (Erin) Quam of Sioux Falls, SD; several cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and long-time special friend, Louis Dahlmeier of Moose Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Donald in infancy.
