Robert Uhden

Robert "Bob" Uhden, 89, of Donnelly passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 after a year and a half struggle with heart problems.
He was born September 2, 1925 to John and Frances (Martens) Uhden in Dell Rapids, SD. He lived on various farms in the area until the family moved to Herman, MN in the fall of 1936. Bob graduated with his sisters in 1942 from Herman High School and helped on the family farm until his single days ended when he married Esther Widmer on January 11, 1950. This union lasted for over 51 years until she passed away in 2001. Bob started farming east of Herman on the shores of Big Lake. In 1953, he moved to Windy Hill on Niemackle Lake where he raised cattle, hogs, hounds and kids. In March of 1961, he moved to Donnelly and started milking cows until the fall of 1971 when he purchased his current farm north of Donnelly. He retired in 1986 and started enjoying fulltime his lifelong passion of hunting with hounds. Bob always looked forward to a light, fresh snowfall so he could go out hunting with his hounds. Bob believed in the simple life, faith and family. He was always available to lend a helping hand to neighbors and community. He was a 4-H Leader, a deputy for Stevens and Grant County's sheriff's offices for special events, a volunteer firefighter and volunteer during the early years of the threshing bee. Bob was an active member of the MN Trapper's Association and loved traveling to meetings and conventions where he was always cracking a joke or mixing common sense with an anecdote. His laughter was well recognized. It was at one of these events that long-time family friend, Rosalie Stoeckel realized she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Bob and they were married in 2006. He and Rose had love and companionship for the last eight and a half years. Bob had the distinction and pleasure of having two 5 generation pictures taken.
Bob is survived by his wife, Rosalie "Rose" of Donnelly, his children: Lafay (Donnie) Fiechtner of Wyndmere, ND, Lowell (Pam) Uhden of Barney, ND, Debra (Howard) Kill of Donnelly, Robert Uhden of Lowry, Darrell (Shirley) Uhden of Kensington, Dale Uhden of Alexandria, Kenneth (Julie) Uhden of Alexandria and a step-son, Micheal (Mary) Uhden of Benson; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; a brother, George (Darlene) Uhden of Maupin, OR; a sister, Eunice Allan of Lake Stevens, WA; a cousin, Clarence (Virginia) Uhden of Albany, OR and many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Esther, a daughter, Theressa (Terrie), two brothers, John (Jack) and David Uhden and a sister, Marian Shaeffer.
