Roger V. Langlie, 83, born on September 20, 1941, in Ottertail County, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, at the Ashby Living Center. He was the beloved son of Morris G. Langlie and Sylvia P. Anderson. Roger’s upbringing in the Eagle Lake Twp. area laid the foundation for a life filled with dedication to family, community, and work.
Roger attended grade school at District 114 before graduating from Ashby High School. Following his graduation, he began his career at Orville Jacobson Construction in Ashby, showing his strong commitment to hard work from an early age. His journey led him to marry the love of his life, Joyce E. Wik, on June 30, 1962, at the Calvary Covenant Church in Evansville, MN. Together, they built a loving family and a rich life filled with shared experiences.
Over the years, Roger worked at Montana Flour Mill in Fergus Falls before dedicating over 30 years to Mark Sand & Gravel, where he became a respected figure in the industry. Following his retirement, his work ethic continued, as he took on part-time roles at Ness Backhoe and Balgaard Services, contributing to the community he adored.
Roger was a dedicated member of the Ashby Fire Department and Ambulance Service, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His passions extended beyond work; he loved farming, tinkering, and repairing items, becoming the go-to person for fixing anything that needed attention. His mornings were often spent enjoying coffee with friends, while evenings might find him relaxing with a cocktail and stories of the day’s adventures.
One of Roger's greatest joys was taking scenic drives around the countryside, where he found comfort in observing the ever-changing landscape and the gravel pits he had come to know well. He had a particular fondness for deer hunting with his family and cherished moments spent ice fishing, relishing the peacefulness that came with these activities.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Langlie; children, Tammy Bestul and Troy (Teresa) Langlie; four grandchildren, Cassandra (Mitch) Griep, Tyson (Sierra) Langlie, Tanner Langlie, and Madison Bestul; five great-grandchildren, Alexa and Marisa Griep, Calum, Laiken and Reyna Langlie; a brother, Jack Langlie; sister-in-law, Marjorie Berry, as well as numerous other relatives and friends who held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Dereck Benson; siblings, Gayle (Renee) Langlie and Sandra (David) Barry; and sister-in-law, Gwen Langlie.
Roger's life was a testament to love, loyalty, and service. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and support that will be forever cherished by all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he touched throughout his life.
