Ronald (Ron) Larson, 84, of Evansville MN, passed away on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.
Ronald Vernon was born on August 30, 1933, in Evansville MN on the family farm. He was the son of Carl and Cecil (Saurers) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Evansville. Ron attended Evansville school through 8th grade, where he left to work on the family farm as he was the oldest son. While working on the family farm he also worked at the John Deere shop in Evansville.
On September 11, 1954 he married Lois Anderson of Evansville. They shared almost 63 years together. In September 1955 Ron enlisted in the Army. He was stationed first in Fort Riley KS and then at Fort McCoy WI, where he trained national guardsmen. After his discharge in 1957, Ron and Lois moved to Anoka and he purchased his first semi tractor and started trucking. In 1960, they moved by Evansville and took over Lois’s parents farm. They raised three daughters, milked cows for 22 years and Ron farmed for over 40 years. Ron was a steward of the land and a progressive farmer. In 1981, the dairy farm was sold and Ron started trucking over the road. He drove through all but two of the mainland states. Ron remembered every haul he made and the route he took. Ron’s favorite truck was a Peterbilt. Other favorites of his were John Deere and Chevrolet.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed ice fishing on Pelican Lake, deer hunting and restoring John Deere tractors. Ron and Lois loved to travel and in addition to traveling in the truck together made various bus trips to Alaska, Canada, and California. Ron and Lois were partners in every aspect of their lives.
In everything he did he gave his all, but mostly in his relationships with people. Family and friends were the most important to him. His motto was: If you are going to do it, do it right. And he did.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, in laws Robert and Jennie Anderson, brothers, Harold and Dennis; brothers in law, DeWayne Anderson, Richard Stuart and Rudy Johnson; sisters in law, Ruby Anderson and Judy Larson; niece, Dawn Stuart and special nephews, Brad Larson and Keith Anderson.
