Rudolph Haukebo

Rudolph "Rudy" Haukebo, 93 of Battle Lake died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.

Rudolph Haukebo was born on September 14, 1919 in Sverdrup Township, rural Battle Lake, Minnesota the son of Thomas and Louise (Larson) Haukebo. He was baptized and confirmed in Underwood and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church. Rudy attended Rural School District #270 in Everts Township then continued his education with the Battle Lake High School graduating in 1939. After his graduation he worked for his good friend Carl Peterson at his farm on Christina Lake until entering the service. He was a member of the U.S. Army serving from February 3, 1942 to October 7, 1945, first stationed in Hawaii then served in the South Pacific during WW II.

Rudy and Shirley Evenson were married in 1947 in the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, Minnesota. To this union three sons were born, Jeff, Craig and Kevin. They later divorced. He was employed as a farm implement salesman for the Ford Garage in Fergus Falls. In 1955, Rudy started a State Farm Insurance office in Battle Lake, operating this agency until his retirement on May 31, 1988. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Battle Lake Lions Club, Sons of Norway, American Legion, VFW and had served on the Battle Lake City Council. Rudy was very active with the community tree plantings, receiving an appreciation plaque from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He enjoyed two trips to Norway to visit family, Rudy liked duck hunting, golfing, dancing, card playing and most of all he enjoyed people.

He is survived by his partner, Katherine Harms of Battle Lake; three sons, Jeff (Betty) Haukebo of Park Rapids, Craig Haukebo (Reba Gilliand) of Battle Lake, Kevin (April) Haukebo of Cincinnati, Ohio and Sarah (Tim) Harms Easter of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four grandchildren, Beth Haukebo of Rochester, Angie (John Lindberg) Haukebo of St. Paul, Joshua Haukebo of Baltimore, Maryland and Derek Haukebo of Minneapolis; one sister, Ellen Johnson of Battle Lake; and by numerous relatives and friends. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Louise Haukebo; one sister, Signe Jorgensen; six brothers, Arnold, Ellis, Walter, Clarence, Thomas and Herbert.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Saturday, March 23, 2013, at First Lutheran Church, Battle Lake

Visitation: 4 - 7 PM Friday, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home Battle Lake. Visitation resumes one hour prior to services at the church.

Interment: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Battle Lake
