Russel Swenson

Russel Swenson, 81, of Underwood passed away Sunday March 2, 2025.

The funeral will be Saturday March 8, 2025, 10:30am at St. James Catholic Church in Underwood, Minnesota. A one-hour visitation will be held prior.

Russel Perry Swenson was born March 16, 1943 to Richard and Olive (Hanson) Swenson in Fergus Falls, MN. He grew up on their family farm in Hoffman and later moved to Battle Lake.
He met his Highschool sweetheart, Maxine Barry in Battle Lake High School and they were married for 62 years. They were blessed with five children and six grandchildren.
After graduating from High school, Russel went to meat cutting school in Ohio. For 36 years he worked in the meat cutting industry before retiring and moving home to lake county.
Russel was a kind, caring, giving, incredibly patient and hardworking family man. He held strong values and lived life with high integrity always helping others. He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, hunting, nature (birds), gardening, winemaking, and happy hour creations enjoyed by all. But most of all he cherished family holidays, lots of competitive games with the grandchildren and time with friends.
Even in his last days he never complained, told crazy stories and always had a compliment to all those he encountered. He was entertaining and caring about others up until the day the lord called him home.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Olive, his brother Rodney and his two sisters: Diane King and Faith Reusch. 
He is survived by wife Maxine, brothers: Tim (Carol) and Jeff (Cindy) and sister Shelley (Gary) Schott. Along with his children: Monte (Tanya), Shawn (Jodi), Daniel (Denise), Jill (René), Brett and grandchildren: Bridgett, Joelle, Perry, Mitchell, Cullen and Kyann.
