Ruth Evenson, 94, of Evansville, formerly of Ashby, died Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Evansville Care Center.
Ruth Valborg Evenson was born August 13, 1919 to Victor and Nicoline (Ronning) Johnson in Pomme de Terre Township, rural Elbow Lake, Minnesota. She was baptized in Hjerdahl Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran church in Ashby. Ruth attended Rural School District 11 in Pomme de Terre Township. She was united in marriage to Oscar Evenson on September 11, 1943.
Ruth lived most of her life on the farm while growing up and after marriage. She and Oscar moved to the Ashby Apartments in 1979. They enjoyed the city life. Ruth experienced the life, coffee gathering amongst the ladies in the apartments.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, now Peace Lutheran in Ashby, Ladies Aide, Senior Citizens, and Legion Auxiliary. In the 1960's Ruth worked at the Elbow Lake Nursing Home. She moved into Pelican Lake Health Care in 2004. In 2008 she relocated to the Evansville Care Campus until the time of her death. She enjoyed outside work. Whether it was feeding her chickens, gardening and especially her flower beds. She had lots of flowers.
Ruth is survived by daughter Virginia (Loren) Carlson of Comstock, son, Ed (Peggy McNeill) Evenson of Ashby; 4 grandchildren, Jeff of Comstock, Stephanie of Woodberry, Mandy, Inky (Steve) of Fort Collins, CO; Peggy's children, Derrick and Darryl of Ashby, Roddy (Alisha), Kylie, Avery and Layla of Dalton; sister-in-law, Esther Johnson of Barrett.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, parents, brothers, Carl, Sigrud and Hilding.
Funeral Services: 2 pm, Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church, Ashby, Minnesota
Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church
