Shirley Behl, 80, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at Sanford Health Palliative Care in Fargo, ND.
Shirley Mae Bushee was born on June 19, 1935 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of James and Agnes (Cariveau) Bushee. She attended school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in East Grand Forks, MN, graduating from there. Along with her family, Shirley moved to Wahpeton, ND after graduating high school.
On August 21, 1955, Shirley married John Behl at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, and they were blessed with five children.
In 1959, Shirley and John moved their family to Southern California, until retiring in 1997, at which time they moved to Fergus Falls, MN, to spend more time with family.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo, casino trips, and was an avid reader earlier in life. Shirley and John loved to travel and would make annual trips from California to places like OtterTail Lake and Reno, Nevada to visit family. Shirley will be fondly remembered as a motherly figure to her family and will be dearly missed.
Shirley is survived by her five children, Jack Behl of Garden Grove, CA; Michael Behl of Fergus Falls; Julie Herman of Riverside, CA; Jo Anne Potts of Fergus Falls; and Susan Maki of Fergus Falls; eight grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Brandon, Jana, Sarah, Rachel, James, Monica, and Jonathan; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Lauren, and Harlow; three siblings, Katy (Jim) Thimjon of Wahpeton, Dennis Bushee of Desert Hot Springs, CA, and Dean (Michelle) Bushee of Bismarck, ND.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2010; four siblings, Phyllis McLaren, Gloria Hess, Ronnie Bushee, and Eileen Behl.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Friday, with a Rosary at 6:00 PM, followed by a prayer service, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 AM Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls
