Susan Schanus

Susan Marion (Stans) Schanus , 79, of Fergus Falls, MN, formerly, Battle Lake, MN, died on Friday, July 26, 2024, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Susan Schanus was born on March 2, 1945, in Shakopee, MN, to Jerome John and Margaret (Scheffler) Stans. She graduated from Hopkins High School. After marrying the love of her life, Gerald Edmond Schanus, on May 6, 1962. Susan was a homemaker, providing for her family.

Susan found solace and community at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake, where she was an active member. Her joy for life was contagious, whether she was quilting, fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, or trying her luck at gambling. She had a keen eye for treasures, often found at auctions and garage sales, and cherished the time she spent babysitting for her family.

Susan's kind and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her brothers, David Stans, Edward (Lois) Stans, Tom Stans, Charles (Rita) Stans and Gary Stans; sisters, Margaret Hesse, Ruth Stans and Rosie Forsman; sibling-in-laws, Lyn Stans, Diane Stans and Ron Gangl ; two grandchildren, Gerald Schanus Jr and Miranda McCaleb; six great grandchildren; cousin Kathleen (Darcey) Beach, and all who had the privilege of calling her a friend. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald in 2002; daughter Roxann in 2013; siblings, Kathleen (Fred) Mills, Victor (Jeri Jean) Stans, Jerome, James, Theresa and Nicholas, sibling-in-laws, Sandy Stans, Leo Hesse and David Forsman.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Interment: Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Cemetery, Battle Lake, MN
