Thomas Murray, 78 of Fergus Falls, formerly of rural Battle Lake died Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at the Minnesota Veterans Home.

Thomas William Murray was born on May 22, 1937, in Graceville, Minnesota, the seventh of twelve children to Ray and Hazel (Schlosser) Murray. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Tom attended rural school in Western Township, rural Campbell and then the Campbell Public School. After his schooling he worked on farms and then with the Campbell Elevator. He enlisted into the US Army, serving three years, first at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri, then at Ft. Louis in Washington and his last station was at Ft. Richardson in Alaska. He was in construction building radar towers and after his discharge he returned to Minnesota.

Tom and Waiva Neubauer were married on September 22, 1959. They lived in various locations while he was over the road truckingl. In July of 1976, they moved to their farm in Eagle Lake Township, rural Battle Lake. He farmed and had Tom Murray Construction doing carpenter work until his retirement. He was later divorced. During his life he enjoyed reading, hunting, he loved his sweets, liked to visit with people and was interested in many things. He enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren.

He was survived by his two daughters, Dawn (Monte) Samuelson of Underwood and Darcy (Russell) Sorenson of Ashby; six grandchildren, Jeannie Samuelson, Phillip (Rachel) Samuelson, Erika (Brandon) Goette, Ryan, Dallas and Erin Sorenson; one great-granddaughter, Jayden Christianson; four sisters, Louise Schillinger of Breckenridge, Verna Goldal of West Fargo, Joyce Church of Fairmont and Linda (Steve) Danielson of Fergus Falls; two brothers, Marvin Murray of Underwood and Ray Murray of Fergus Falls; and by numerous relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Hazel Murray; and by five siblings, Harold Murray, Violet Miller, Elmer Murray, Marjorie Barth and Ruth Murray.

Memorial Service: 4:00 pm Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.

Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 pm and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
