Thomas W. Schuveiller, age 98 of Battle Lake, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
Thomas William Schuveiller was born December 5, 1913 in Nicollett, MN, the son of Charles and Edith (Boys) Schuveiller. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith, and graduated from Rutland High School in 1931.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted with the U.S. Coast Guard for five years, where he escorted convoys from Panama to New Finland during WWII. Thomas drove semi for the Allied Jobbers Trucking Company, operated street cars for Twin City Lines and worked a year in the Ford Plant.
On September 3, 1943, Thomas married Erma Marie Bennewitz at the Walker United Methodist Church in Minneapolis.
Thomas went back to work for Twin City Lines, which eventually became Metro Transit, a job he held until he retired in 1975. Near retirement, Thomas and Erma purchased a lake home at Stony Point on West Battle Lake.
Thomas was an avid hunter and fisherman. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors, traveling, and especially liked cutting and splitting wood.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Jr. (Margaret) of Buffalo, MN; five grandchildren: Thomas Schuveiller III of Battle Lake, Elizabeth (Ryan) Eckman of Monticello, MN; Matthew, Stephanie and Andrew Schuveiller of Buffalo.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his wife Erma on November 26, 1984; his brothers, Ralph and James; and a sister, Dorothy Schuveiller.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Friday, July 6, 2012 at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake, and also one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
