Thomas Slack, 63, of Evansville, MN, died on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
In 1958, Marion (Corky), Georgia and their four children moved from Kingfisher, OK to Brandon, MN. They purchased Hap Jones Resort on Big Chippewa Lake and changed the name to Corky’s Resort. On November 17, 1959 Tom was born at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN. He grew up on the resort until the age of 12 when Georgia got remarried to Adrian Ellingson. Tom and his younger brother Roger moved to a farm north of Evansville where they continued running the resort as well as farm.
Tom met Ramona Anderson and were married on Dec 16, 1978 at the Presbyterian Church in Elbow Lake. In April of 1979, Tom and Mona purchased the farm from Georgia and Adrian. They continued to farmed for 9 years. During that time, they had 6 children, Tommy & Timmy, Tom Jr, Debbie, Darin and Marc. In the late 80s, they sold the cattle and Tom went back to painting bridges where he worked until he was forced to retire due to illness. Tom was diagnosed with cancer in 2020. After a three year battle, he passed away April 1st, 2023 in his home surrounded by his wife and kids.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mona Slack; three children, Tom Jr. (Charlotte) Slack, Debbie (Rob) Otto and Marc (Heather) Slack all of Evansville, MN; four siblings, Larry (Linda) Slack of Brandon, MN, Greg (Sandy) Slack of Evansville, MN, Sonya (Bill) Byrne of Welch, MN and Roger (Rita) Slack of Boise, ID; sister-in-law, Sharon Slack of Alexandria; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren along with numerous relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Corky (Nancy Klipstein) and Georgia (Adrian) Ellingson; son, Darin Slack; infant sons, Tom and Tim Slack; brother, George Slack; nieces, Andrea Slack and Becky Slack Peterson; and nephew, Taylor Bergsrud.
Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the Brandon School Gym, Brandon, Minnesota with a memorial gathering starting from 12- 2 P.M at the School Gym.
