Velma Lund

March 4, 1925 — June 29, 2011

Velma LaVerne Mikkelson Lund entered into the Lord's presence June 29, 2011 from the Ottertail Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born March 4, 1925 in Lake Park, MN, daughter of Martin & Bessie Mikkelson. She was married 54 years to her beloved husband, Leonard A. Lund, who preceded her in death in February 2000. She is also predeceased by an infant son, Arvid, and granddaughter, Shari Horrell, She is survived by her 6 children, Roger, and his wife, Claudia, of Minto, ND, Loris, and her husband, Brett Horrell of Greenville, SC, Kenneth, and his wife, Debbie, of Richville, MN, Daryl, and his wife, Brenda, of Richville, MN, Deanna Mathias of Grand Junction, TN, Allen, and his wife, Bella, of San Carlos, Costa Rica. She leaves behind a heritage of 20 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted and godly wife and mother. Her children will attest to the fact that she was their greatest cheerleader, as well as their father's, praising them all to success, yet she herself did not ask for any of the same.
She graduated from Moorhead Teacher's College before marriage. Intermittently, with the rearing of their 6 children, Velma invested her life into the lives of many other children, teaching school in the Barnhard, Erhard, and Perham schools, as well as her work with the Head Start program in her later years.
Memorial services will be held at 11am at Tingvold Luthern Church, Underwood, MN August 6, 2011. Rev. Allen Lund will be officiating the service. Following the service the family will be receiving family and friends. A graveside memorial will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Tingvold Luthern Church or to the Alzheimers Fund.
