Vernon C. Johnson, Erdahl, died Friday, December 28, 2012 at Knute Nelson Memorial Home, Alexandria, Minnesota.
Vernon Clifton Johnson was born November 25, 1921 to Andrew G. and Hulda (Thornberg) Johnson at Evansville, MN. He grew up in rural Evansville and received his education through the 8th grade at District 38. Vernon went to work on his family's farm, eventually taking over the operation himself.
He tried his hand at baking cakes using turkey eggs. It was imperative that Vernon get to Erdahl on Saturday nights for the dance irregardless of the weather. Vernon loved to fish on Lake Ina with his brothers and brothers-in-law. He always had time for coffee with Wilbur at Nelson's Store. Vernon and his friend, Dennis Jacobson, rode together every Sunday morning for breakfast at Melby. He was a familiar "fixture" at all family functions.
Vernon is survived by his sisters Hazel Ostenson of Erdahl and Gloria Zickur of Evansville; several nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Glen and an infant brother, Vernie.
