Vernon Pederson Sr., 91 of Underwood died March 25, 2013 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
Vernon Herbert Pederson was born on May 26, 1921 in Everts Township, rural Battle Lake, Minnesota the son of Herman and Emma (Ekeberg) Pederson. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith and confirmed in the Rindal Lutheran Church rural Underwood on June 23, 1937. He attended rural School District #45 in everts Township and continued with the 7th and 8th grade in Rural School district #112 in Sverdrup Township.
Vernon and Alice Spanswick were married on November 10, 1943 in the First Lutheran parsonage in Battle Lake. After their marriage, Vernon dairy farmed in Sverdrup and Everts Township until his retirement. He was a member of the Rindal Lutheran Church where he served on the church board. After the Rindal fire Vernon and Alice joined the Tingvold Lutheran Church where he served on the Tingvold Cemetery Board. Vernon enjoyed horses, dancing, his family and especially his grandchildren who have many memories of helping Grandpa on the farm. In 1995 they moved into the Tamarack Apartments in Underwood. On February 4, 2013 because of failing health he entered the Broen Home.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; one son, Vernon Jr. (Charlotte) Pederson of Underwood; two grandchildren, Keith (Denise) Pederson and Pam Pederson all of Underwood; two great-granddaughters, Brook and Shelby Skinnemoen of Underwood; one brother-in-law, Jim (Betty) Spanswick of Ottertail; and by numerous, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Tingvold Lutheran Church of rural Underwood
Visitation: Saturday from 11 am until the time of the service at the church.
