Vincent Ebbighausen, 80, of Fergus Falls died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at his home under the care of his family and Lakeland Hospice.
Vincent Evans Ebbighausen was born July 19, 1929, in Fergus Falls to Henry and Rachel (Evans) Ebbighausen. He attended Fergus Falls Public School and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1947. From 1947 to 1951 he worked with the Otter Tail County Surveying Crew as a Rodman.
He joined the National Guard serving in Company L, 136th Infantry. He also served with the 29th Infantry in Okinawa during the Korean War.On July 4, 1959, he married Joan Lincoln at the Federated Church Chapel in Fergus Falls and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2009.
From 1953 to 1991, Vince worked for Otter Tail Power Company Special Engineering Services. He stated that he was fortunate to be a part of the building of the transmission system as we know it today.Vince and Joan enjoyed wintering in South Padre, Texas . He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, walking and lounging in the sun in his hammock. Vince loved nature, watching the geese and swans and was instrumental in starting the goose refuge in Fergus Falls . His favorite times were at the family place on the Otter Tail River known as “Little Einbeck”. Vince enjoyed spending his vacations with the family in the Boundary Waters, Isle Royal National Park or wherever nature abounded at all seasons. He treasured his trips to Germany to visit friends and relatives and had a great interest in his genealogy. He was especially fond of his dogs, Dolly, Lady, Daisy and Molly, who were his constant companions. He was a member of Federated Church, the Fish and Game Club, American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; twin sons, Vaughn of Fergus Falls and Charles of Dent; daughter, Kaya Epps of Fergus Falls; two grandchildren, Chuck (Amber) Epps and Leah (Zachary) Epps both of Fargo, ND; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Jr. and Donovan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rachel Ebbighausen; three brothers, Harlan, Henry George and Fredrick.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Federated Church and Lakeland Hospice.
