Violet Oland, 86, of Fergus Falls died Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Pioneer Care.
She was born May 30, 1929 in Hazen, ND to Emmanuel and Emelia (Richter) Mittelsteadt. She was the oldest daughter in a family of nine children. She attended country school until the 8th grade and then stayed home to help her mother care for twin siblings. Violet was united in marriage to Clayton Jerome Oland on September 1, 1948 in Bismarck, ND. She and Clayton had five children: Curtis, Deborah, Carmen, Perry and Connie. Violet had many interests and hobbies throughout her life. She helped with Sunday school and cub scouts, and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for many years. Throughout her working years, she cooked, first starting at Mohn's Bakery in Breckenridge then moving to the nursing home and Breckenridge High School. She loved cooking and baking and feeding people. Her loving personality always made eating time a party which happened any time family or friends stopped by. She loved gardening and growing flowers and was blessed with a green thumb. All of her children remember hoeing the sweet corn before Violet would take them to Pebble Beach to swim. Violet had also sewn all her years, making many dresses for her girls including wedding and bridesmaid dresses. In her later years she started quilting, making many beautiful hand and machine sewn quilts for all her children. She also crocheted doilies and clothing for dolls and Christmas décor, while watching TV in the evenings. She enjoyed fun and laughter, passing that down to all of her family. We love you, Mom!
Violet is survived by her children: Curtis Oland of Donnelly, Deborah (Dale) Schneider of Fergus Falls, Carmen (Barry) Leitch of Fergus Falls, Perry (Joan) Oland of Wahpeton, ND and Connie (Tolly) Tollefson of Rothsay; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorna Gauthier of West Fargo, ND and a brother, Ken Mittelsteadt of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clayton in 2007, siblings: Reuben (Frieda) Mittelsteadt, Clarence (Alfreda) Mittelsteadt, Ray Mittelsteadt, Leo (Ida) Mittelsteadt, Doris (John) Nyline and Karen Working; one grandson, Beau Schneider and a great-grandson, Briggs Anderson.
Visitation: Wednesday, February 24, 2016 from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls and resuming for one hour prior to the service.
Memorial Service: Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls
