Winona "Noni" McDonald, 87, of Fergus Falls died peacefully Friday, March 11, 2011, at her home.
Winona Audrey McDonald was born April 19, 1923, in Henning, Minnesota to Anton and Audrey (Brogard) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed in a rural Lutheran Church and attended Henning and Battle Lake schools.
On March 20, 1940, Winona married Gordon McDonald of Underwood. The couple lived in Underwood briefly and then moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin where Gordon worked in a factory producing goods for the war. They returned to Underwood where they owned a trucking business. Later, Gordon and Winona resided in Elbow Lake, Minnesota where they began a home construction business. They built over 100 homes in the Elbow Lake, Lake Region and Fergus Falls areas. They have resided in Fergus Falls since 1972.
Noni enjoyed many pastimes including gardening, making wedding cakes, golfing, swimming, living at the lake in the summer and wintering in Texas. She also enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Her daughters and grandchildren were the joy of her life. Noni was a wonderful homemaker. She was a kind, caring and lovely woman who loved to laugh and visit with her many friends. She will be missed very much by her loving family.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Richard) Larson of Moorhead, MN and Patricia (Robert) Thiel of Ottertail, MN; grandchildren, Bobby (Susan) Thiel of East Grand Forks, MN, Randy Larson of Moorhead, MN and Lance (Kim) Larson of Ham Lake, MN; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Karley Thiel and Cole, Grace, Quinn, Grant and Griffin Larson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; her parents; a brother and a great-grandson, Walker Larson.
