David Hunter, 79, of rural Underwood passed away Sunday April 20, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
David LeRoy Hunter was born on February 23, 1935 in Radisson Township, rural Radisson, Wisconsin the son of Harold and Velta (Clark) Hunter. He was baptized at the First Lutheran Church in Exeland, Wisconsin then later full emersion baptism when he became a Christian. He attended school in Exeland then in New Richmond. He served in the U.S. Army from March 24, 1951 to February 8, 1952 where he served in the infantry in Korea. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from April 8, 1952 to October 18, 1954.
David and Nancy Horsnell married in 1954 in St. Paul, Minnesota. They lived in various locations before settling in St. Paul where he was employed with the Fuller Brush Co. They then moved to Baldwin, Wisconsin where he worked as a mechanic in a garage. They were divorced and he returned to the Twin Cities where David was employed a number of years with the Anoka State Hospital as a Nurses Aide. In 1972, David married Marian Lucero in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived in the Twin Cities until 1979; David started his own business the Olde England Pipe Repair. They moved to Marian's farm near Underwood where they built their home. Marian cared for her mother and David operated his business. He enjoyed flower planting, vegetable gardening, collecting antique pipe, pipe smoking and had been a member of the Pipe Smoking Club of England. He was known for his good sense of humor. Most important, David believes in Jesus Christ and that the Bible is the true spoken Word of God.
David is survived by his six children, Deborah, Dolores, Cheryl, David Scott, Lisa and Kathleen; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; step-daughter Judith Lucero from Fergus Falls; two sisters, Dolores (Bill) Wiedner of Sacramento, CA and Sylvia Larson of New Richmond, WI; two half-brothers, Mark (Sue) Hunter of Star Prairie, WI and Tim Hunter of St. Paul; and by numerous relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Marian on August 17, 2012; grandson, Robert and step-son, Steven Lucero.
A private family celebration will be held for David Hunter.
Burial will take place at Rindal Cemetery of rural Underwood, Minnesota.
