Lila Duenow, 97, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, October 23, 2014, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Lila Louise Olive was born on September 17, 1917, in Friberg Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Lillian Nora (Olds) Kugler of German, English and Dutch heritage. She was baptized at East Friberg Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Fergus Falls. She attended rural school District #159 through the eighth grade and then worked on the family farm as well as a housekeeper for families in the area.
On September 30, 1941, she married Harold Otto Duenow in Maine Township on the farm of her sister, Violet Genz. The couple resided on the Duenow family farm in Friberg Township. After their retirement, they built a home on the Otter Tail River, near their farm and Schmidt's Bridge. During their retirement, they enjoyed their trips out West to visit relatives and also the Chicago Cub's games.
Lila was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the Friberg Homemaker's Club and the Senior Citizens of Elizabeth and Fergus Falls.
Her hobbies include gardening, growing flowers, card playing-especially smear, cooking, canning and baking. Lila loved entertaining, especially at Christmas and Deer Hunting.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Harold; a daughter, LaVera Norman; two sisters, Violet Skogen and Velda Buchholz; three brothers, Vernon, Marvin and Robert Kugler; a son-in-law, Gary Leitch; a grandson, Troy Duenow.
Her family includes a son, Wayne (Diane) Duenow; a daughter, Susan Leitch and a son in law, Jim Norman all of Fergus Falls; nine grandchildren, Jodi (Mike) Reischl, Tasha (Matthew) McGuire, Jay (Jeanne) Norman, Lance (Kari) Leitch, , Bryce Duenow, Brett Leitch, Shawn (Angela) Leitch, Tonya (Timothy) Fiskum, Bethany (Eric) Berger; 20 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Peter and Amanda Reischl, Tyson, Dillon (Tenia), Amy Norman, Ashley (Wade) Miller, Nicole (Kyle) Nash, Andrew, Justin, Sean, Molly, Luke, Logan McGuire, Tyler, Trista, Trevor Fiskum, Katie, Kali, Ellie Leitch; five great-great-grandchildren, Madison, Mia, Brayden and Bella Miller and Wyatt Nash; one sister, Sylvia Thompson, sister in law, Vivian Kugler; two brother in-laws, Edwin Duenow and Russell Anderson along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
