Dennis Johnson

Dennis Ward Johnson, 61, of rural Fergus Falls, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at his home after a brave battle with cancer.

Dennis was born on March 7, 1956 in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Chester and Alpha (Hoff) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Aastad Lutheran Church, of rural Fergus Falls. Dennis grew up on a farm in Aastad Township where he enjoyed the farm life with his family.  Dennis attended country school Dist. #1413 and then went to the Fergus Falls High School.

On June 7, 1974 Dennis married Cindy Wellbrock at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and they were blessed with 4 beautiful children. He was a devoted, hard-working husband and father, providing as best he could for his family.

Dennis worked at the Fergus locker, drove truck for Lampy Ready Mix and from there went into excavation, running heavy equipment for over 43 years. He worked at Dean’s excavating, Stan Morrill excavating, Brad Botner Excavating and most recently, Barry Construction.

Dennis took pleasure in spending time with his family, especially his wife, his children and his grandchildren. Whether it was in the woods, caring for his lawn or for the farm yard belonging to his in-laws, Dennis and Evelyn, he really enjoyed his time spent outdoors. He also enjoyed fishing, 4-wheeling and greatly enjoyed deer hunting with his son.

He is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Cindy; four children, Jason Johnson of Fergus Falls, Jill (Matthew) Miller of Hillsboro, ND, Christina Johnson of Fargo, ND, and Molly (fiancé Dan Hamilton) Johnson of Fergus Falls: Three dearly loved grandchildren, Graci and Hailey Miller and Eli Johnson; seven siblings, Daryl (Maryls) Johnson of Fergus Falls, David (Judy) Johnson of Battle Lake, Nancy Anderson of Savage, MN, Jennifer (Tyler) Erickson of Trinidad, Colorado,  Duane (Janna) Johnson of Savage, MN. Darwin (Diane) Johnson of Fergus Falls, Dean Johnson, his mother-in-law Evelyn Wellbrock, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents; Chester and Alpha, Dennis is preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert; an infant sister, Melissa, and his father-in-law,
Dennis Wellbrock.

Visitation: 3-5 PM Sunday, with a 4:30 PM Prayer Service, at Glende­-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls and one hour prior to the services at Immanuel Church of West Friberg.
