Marillyn Beck

Marillyn Beck, 94, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Pioneer Cottages.

Marillyn Irene Moe was born on March 11, 1925 in Pierpont, South Dakota to George and Gertrude Moe. She graduated from New Effington High School in 1943. Following graduation, she went to Seattle, Washington with a girlfriend to work as a welder in the shipyards during WWII. Upon her return back home, she pursued a degree in education beginning at Aberdeen College, then at SDSU at Brookings, South Dakota and later completing her degree at MSC Moorhead, Minnesota.

Marillyn married Forrest (Bud) Beck on July 13, 1948. They made their home in Norcross where they raised their 2 children, David and Debra and owned and operated the Norcross Cafe. After selling the Restaurant, Marillyn returned to teaching until her retirement in 1990. She was an active member of WSCS Methodist Church study club, Elbow Lake golf course, and the Norcross Homemakers Club.

After retirement, Bud and Marillyn enjoyed spending their winters in Texas where they made some wonderful new friends, pursued new fun activities and explored the coast. Spending time with family and friends, especially with their children and grandchildren was always a highlight. Wherever she was, Marillyn enjoyed doing her daily crossword puzzles, along with many crafts, her favorite being making beautiful cards.

Marillyn is survived by her children David (Doris) Beck of Abbotsford, BC, Canada & Debra (Richard) Helmstetter of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Jamie(Megan) Beck, Heather(Matt) Isaak, Jody(Darin) Miles, Stacy(Jeff) Paprocki, Kelsey Helmstetter; great-grandchildren Aidan, Jaxon, Kai, Halle, Jude, Caily, Lexi, Bria, Colson, Livia and Hadley; Brother John(Delores) Moe of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, parents, three sisters and their husbands Ida(Cal) Van Wechel, Joyce(Odell) Aamot, Mary(Dennis) Prothero, sisters-in-law Ione(Ken) Stoltenberg, Eileen(Elmer) Jesness and twin great-granddaughters, Avery & Sophie Isaak.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service.

Funeral service: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.

Burial: Lakeside Cemetery in Herman, MN.
