Ronald “Ronnie” Quam, 88 of rural Fergus Falls died Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the Minnesota Veterans Home.
Ronald Charles Quam was born on May 9, 1929, on a farm in Carlisle Township, rural Fergus Falls, Minnesota the son of Julian and Esther (Schulz) Quam. He grew up on the family farm settled by his grandfather, A.O. Quam in 1879, in Carlisle Township. He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church and attended Country School District #54, in Fergus Township. He joined the National Guard in 1947, and was activated during the Korean War, serving at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. He started farming in 1952, on the family farm with his two brothers, Robert and Richard. Ronald retired from farming in 1994, and then took two road trips with his brother on the Alcan Highway to Alaska and the Yukon.
His hobbies included traveling in the west, driving and looking at crops, working on two cylinder tractors and raising a big vegetable garden, giving most of it away. Ronald was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran where he served on the council, was an usher, and was on the team for getting the grounds for the new church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #30.
Ronald is survived by his brother, Stanley (Donna) Quam; nephew, Paul (Erin) Quam; niece, Karen (Greg Hellen) Quam and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Esther; and by three brothers, Donald, Robert and Richard.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Building Fund, the Pre-School at Trinity or the Patrick Henry College, 10 Patrick Circle, Purcellville, VA 20132.
Funeral Service: 11 AM, Monday, February 12, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
